Dietitian follow-up before and after surgery is important both for healthy weight loss after surgery and for preventing complications that may develop due to nutrient deficiencies.
Your dietitian follow-up starts with your nutrition program to be applied by our team dietitians before surgery. After the surgery, you will be followed up by our dietitian at regular intervals for the first 1 year.
Our dietician reaches you before the surgery and informs you about the preoperative diet.
Preoperative Diet
You usually follow a liquid diet for 3 days before the operation. The duration of preoperative nutrition may vary according to your body mass index (BMI).
Your body mass index (BMI);
Between 32.5-39, a 2-day liquid nutrition
If between 40-45, a 3-day liquid diet
If it is 45 and above, you have a liquid nutrition period of at least 5 days.
Longer-term preoperative nutrition programs can also be applied according to the preoperative interview evaluation, regardless of your Body Mass Index.
The aim here is to reduce fat, especially in the liver and abdomen, to preserve muscle tissue by increasing protein intake, and to prepare the body for surgery and the healing process.
Hospital Process:
- You will not take any liquid or food by mouth on the day of your surgery, only in case of extreme thirst, you can melt ice in your mouth by requesting it from the floor nurses. Your fluid and nutritional needs will be given intravenously with the help of serums.
- On the morning of the next day, your scopy examination (leak test) will be performed and if it is normal, you will start consuming water and apple juice.
- On the 2nd postoperative day, you will be able to drink slightly warmed linden and/or light tea in addition to water and apple juice. You will also be able to consume grain-free compote and chicken broth soup served by the hospital.
