WHAT IS OBESITY?
Obesity is the abnormal accumulation of fat in our body. Fat can accumulate both under the skin and in our internal organs, and unless this is corrected, it can disrupt the normal functions of the body. Diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, joint degeneration, sleep-disordered breathing occur at an earlier age and reduce the quality and duration of life.
The presence of adipose tissue over 25% in men and 30% in women indicates obesity.
HOW CAN WE CHECK IF WE ARE OBESE?
The most practical way to find out if you are at a healthy weight is to calculate your body mass index. Body mass index is your weight divided by the square of your height in meters. Of course, those with above normal muscle mass may have a high BMI without obesity.
