Pain after gastric sleeve surgery can sometimes be a harbinger of a serious problem. Especially shoulder pain after sleeve gastrectomy should be taken seriously between the 3rd and 10th days. Pain in the left shoulder develops due to stimulation of the diaphragm muscle.
You should definitely call your bariatric nurse if you have chills and high fever in addition to left shoulder pain. Increased pulse rate, palpitations, pain in the left shoulder and fever may be signs of leakage after sleeve gastrectomy.
What Should We Do After Gastric Sleeve Gastrectomy?
Pain after sleeve gastrectomy is mostly caused by the stitches on the right side of your belly button.
The reason for this is that the stomach piece is removed through this hole and an extra stitch is placed here from the inside to prevent a hernia from forming as a result of this hole being slightly widened from the other holes. This stitch dissolves spontaneously within 3 months and the pain disappears. For this pain, it will be enough to use oral painkillers and sometimes rest on your back.
