Prof Dr Koray TEKİN
He is one of the pioneering surgeons who brought modern and safe obesity surgery techniques accepted worldwide to our country. Dr. Tekin, who took his first step into obesity surgery with the training he attended at the “European School of Laparoscopic Surgery” in Brussels in 2006 when he was still an associate professor, realized the unique structure of the subject, which is quite different from the principles of general surgery, and went to the United States of America, where obesity surgery is accepted as a top specialty. Taking advantage of his successful passing of the US Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) in 1995, he first worked with Dr. Brolin, the former president of ASMBS at Princeton University. He then moved to New York to continue his education with Dr. Bessler at Cornell University and met Dr. Roslin at Lenox Hill Hospital. In 2007, he was the only surgeon from Turkey to attend the first consensus meeting on 'sleeve gastrectomy' held in New York.
First Lap Gastric Bypass and Sleeve Gastrectomy
In early 2008, Dr. Tekin completed his education in the U.S.A. Upon his return to the country, he performed the first RNY Gastric Bypass surgeries in Istanbul under the guidance of Dr. Bessler. In the same year, he performed the first successful “Gastric Sleeve Gastrectomy” operations at Pamukkale University. Dr. TEKİN, who pioneered the spread of these two new methods in our country, went to the USA again in 2010 and worked with Dr. Roslin for the problem of weight regain that may occur after sleeve gastrectomy and bypass surgeries. In 2012, he invited Dr. Roslin to Turkey and performed the first modified duodenal switch (SADI-S) surgery in Turkey.
First SADI-S Surgery in Turkey
Dr. TEKİN performed Laparoscopic Duodenal Switch and its modified version SADI - S surgeries, which can be applied as an effective obesity surgery method in case of weight gain after sleeve gastrectomy surgery (revision surgery), at Pamukkale University Hospitals under the guidance of Dr. Mitchell Roslin.
In 2011, Dr. Tekin received the title of Professor and is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). Dr. Tekin, who has performed over 6500 successful obesity surgeries to date, is highly experienced in gastric reduction surgery (sleeve gastrectomy), rny and omega gastric bypass, modified duodenal switch surgeries and is involved in many young surgeons gaining knowledge and experience in obesity surgery as an instructor in congresses and courses organized nationwide.
